Rotarian of the Day - Ricky Johnson

Richard Ricky JohnsonRichard (Ricky) Johnson joined our club last year at the invitation of Patrick Yancey. He retired from the military after serving for 24 years. Upon retirement, Ricky went to work in the oilfield sector as a personnel guy until the oilfield tanked in 2015. He decided to stay retired and worked on his higher education that was on his bucket list. Ricky has completed his associate degree in Criminal Justice in the fall of 2017 and is now working on a BS in Criminal Justice at Nicholls State.

Ricky Johnson has been married for 28 “short years” to his wife Margaret. They have two great young men.  Joshua is a 2010 graduate of Vandebilt and a 2014 graduate of LSU.  Hayden is a 2013 graduate of Vandebilt and a 2017 graduate of UL in Lafayette. Margaret is in her 30th year at Vandebilt with the first 24 years as the softball coach and last 6 as AD.

Ricky enjoys spending time with friends and enjoying life. He also enjoys a good glass of vino! After visiting Rotary as a guest and listening to the message and researching the purpose of the club not just locally but nationally and globally, Ricky felt it was “a no brainer to join this fine operation and help and give back.” He says that “one should always be willing to give of themselves rather than receive.”

Guest Speaker - Keith Weisheit, LCSW

Keith received his BA in Psychology in 1991 from Nicholls State University and went on to complete his MSW (Masters of Social Work) degree from Southern University at New Orleans in 1993. He completed the requirements through the Louisiana State Board of Social Work Examiners to become a Board Certified Social Worker in May of 1997. Keith has been trained in Neuro-Linguistic Programming, which he began as a test subject while completing his undergraduate degree.

Keith is currently a Licensed Clinical Social Worker who worked for Terrebonne General Medical Center for 15 years.  He has been a Home Health Consultant for the last 12 years and currently works with Kindred at Home, formerly Synergy Home Care, where he is a Sales Consultant calling on area doctors and hospitals. He has done public speaking for all of his professional career and he’s thankful to be able to utilize his background in theater. He was a cheerleader in both high school and college and enjoys helping to motivate others.

Keith was very proud to serve as President of the Volunteer Bayou Region Council of the Alzheimer’s Association. He actually started the first Alzheimer’s Support group in the Houma-Terrebonne area in 1991; that group still meets monthly and has served as a catalyst for the appreciation and understanding that Keith has for persons and families affected by that disease. NOSOTROS, a Cancer Support Group, through Mary Bird Perkins at TGMC, has become a passionate journey as he facilitates the understanding and recovery of cancer-related issues. He has recently become a consultant to Haydel Memorial Hospice to provide end-of-life care and support to those patients and families dealing with death and dying. Lastly, he has been able to expand his educational focus by hosting a weekly, live call-in show for HTV in Houma with a Self-Help Segment on Thursdays.

Keith grew up in Houma and credits his family for helping him understand the importance of helping others.

President's Message

Rotary International has challenged us to not only grown our membership, but to engage our members.  As a Club we are responsible to make sure that our members have a reason to stay.  Part of engaging members is encouraging participation in projects as well as enjoying fellowship with one another.  We are building a strong club.  Each individual member of the Rotary Club of Houma has their own unique gift to give.  Collectively we can achieve great things within our community as well as helping others globally.  So, let us get out there and show our community how much we care.  Every day you can make a positive impact on someone’s life.
