Rotarian of the Day - Jude Laperouse

Jude Laperouse is president of Edward J Laperouse Metal Works, Inc. (Though he says his retirement plans are well in progress.) Jude will celebrate 50 years of marriage to the former Susan Dill this month. They have a son, Ted, and two grandchildren.

Jude became a rotarian shortly after his father passed away and he inherited a business.  As a 20-something,  he felt he was woefully lacking in exposure to the business world and particularly local business leaders that his father had known quite well. Several of those that I did know encouraged me to join rotary, and he was proposed by Alva Eschete in 1977.

Jude enjoys cruise travel and creative cooking, is a novice vegetable gardener and a terrible fisherman (but working on it.)

Guest Speaker - State Rep Jerome "Zee" Zeringue

Jerome Zeringue, who recently was elected to serve as the State Representative for House District 52, is currently serving as principle for Progressive Coastal Consultants. Previously "Zee," as he is known to his friends, served on Governor Jindal's cabinet as the Governor's Executive Assistant for Coastal Activities and Chair of the Coastal Protection and Restoration Authority (CPRA).

Prior to serving on the Governor's Cabinet, Zee held the position of Executive Director of CPRA for over 3 years after having served as Deputy Director and Director of Policy and Programs for the Office of the Governor - Coastal Activities.

A native of Thibodaux, Mr. Zeringue holds a bachelor's degree in Zoology and a master's degree in Fisheries Biology both from Louisiana State University. He worked as a fisheries biologist for the LSU Sea Grant Program, and then as the coastal resources director for the Nature Conservancy of Louisiana, helping establish the Mandalay National Wildlife Refuge here in Terrebonne Parish, before serving as the director of the Terrebonne Levee and Conservation District.

Humor

“Sir, you have got to help!” said the tearful man at the door. “There is a family that I know very well that is in desperate need of money. The Father has been out of a job for over a year, they have five kids at home with barely a bit of food to eat. The worst part is, that they are about to kicked out of the house and they will be left on the streets without a roof over their heads!” The man concluded with one last heart wrenching sob.

“Well,” said the man at the door, “that really is a sad story. Why don’t you come inside and we’ll talk about it a little more. So how much money is needed exactly?” asked the man when they were both seated.

“Oh it’s really terrible”, said the man starting up again, “why just for the rent $3000 is needed by tomorrow otherwise they’ll be kicked out onto the streets.”

“How do you know so much about this situation?” asked the man as he reached for his check book.

“Well,” said the man breaking down once more “they are my tenants.”
