Community Service
An effective service project:
The Rotary Club of Houma and The Houma-Terrebonne Rotary Club in Partnership with The Bayou Area Habitat committed to sponsoring the very first Habitat house in Houma “The Rotary House. At the beginning of the year, Tom Hassell, Pete Konos, and Greg Landry (all Habitat Board Members and Rotarians) began spreading the word about Habitat’s expansion into Terrebonne Parish to their fellow Rotarians.
“We liked the motto of Habitat for Humanity — ‘A Hand Up, Not a Hand Out,” said Hassell. Hassell also explained how they appreciated the result oriented organization of Habitat. He said that perhaps The Rotary Clubs could serve as a springboard for the project. Perhaps other organizations in Terrebonne Parish will become involved in Habitat from Rotary’s initiative.
